What are we seeking in therapy?

Once, some time ago, we lost ourselves. Since then, we have been ceaselessly searching. We search for ourselves in the eyes of others, in the love of our parents, in the light of our children's eyes, in the opinions of friends or even foes. We search in a multitude of places and experiences, but rarely within ourselves.

Self-discovery - An Inner Journey

A journey inward is not like a trip around the world. It won't fill photo albums. It's not comfortable. Sometimes it can even become agonizing. We often get lost, like toddlers who can't distinguish left from right. And no matter which book we open, whether it's "self-help" or quantum physics, whoever we ask, all we'll get are clues to other people's paths.

In our search, we rarely pause to look within ourselves. We seldom give ourselves the necessary time to understand who we truly are, beyond the roles we play in our everyday lives. This quest for self-discovery can be complex and sometimes painful, but it's essential for knowing and understanding ourselves.

The Role of Therapy in the Search for Self

A therapist often understands this desire to find ourselves, even when it is hidden beneath layers of depression, anxiety, or personality disorders. The therapist can help us reconcile with our new identity and understand that each of us is a traveler on our own path. They will guide us, teach us the traffic signs, and show us how to interpret the maps.

Therapy is not just about solving immediate problems but also about helping us to know ourselves better and to develop in ways that bring us greater fulfillment and self-understanding.

Returning home

When we finally arrive home, we will discover that we intuited the path from the very beginning. That the place called "home" is not just a physical space, but also an inner state of comfort and understanding. We realize that everything we have gone through in our quest were just rooms of our soul. That "home" means much more than a residence - it means a profound connection with ourselves and an understanding of our true self.

In the end, therapy can be a precious guide in our journey towards self. By exploring our inner world and understanding what truly defines us, we can find a state of peace and fulfillment that can accompany us in everything we do.
